Taking care of exchange students

It is our policy to organise our activities and services in such a way that all exchange students can achieve as many of their goals related to their study or training period abroad and enable them to have the best possible experience, on an academic as well as a personal level.

Artevelde University College Ghent offers exchange students a variety of international programmes which are taught in English.

Besides embedded English taught bachelor programme, international semester programmes and short courses (two weeks), Artevelde University College also offers short-running intensive programmes.

Here you can find an overview of the costs.

Language Courses

To prepare yourself as good as possible, Artevelde University College Ghent gives you the opportunity to freshen up your English language skills before the semester starts.

Furthermore, all departments organise training periods for exchange students, whether or not in combination with one or more international programmes. Finally, Dutch language courses can be followed on different dates and at different levels.

The use of standard procedures and administrative documents facilitates your application. This will help you to achieve as many of your goals related to your study or training period at Artevelde University College Ghent and enable you to have the best academic and personal possible experience.

Erasmus Charter

The university college has acquired the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education for the full duration of the new Erasmus+ Programme (2014-2020). The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) provides the general quality framework for European and international cooperation activities a higher education institution may carry out within the Programme.

The award of an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education is a pre-requisite for all higher education institutions located in an eligible country and willing to participate in learning mobility of individuals and/or cooperation for innovation and good practices under the Programme. The Charter is awarded for the full duration of the Programme.

Send email to admissions

Once your application is filled out, send a confirmation email to admissions@arteveldehs.be with:

  • duration + semester programme
  • name
  • email

We will contact you within three weeks

Once we received your mail  we will send your accountnumber and the amount to transfer.

Payment of the applicable costs

Proof of sufficient means of subsistence

You will need to prove that you have the required necessary means to cover your healthcare, living expenses, and study and repatriation costs.

There are two possibilities to do so:

  • Option 1: You transfer the means of subsistence for the complete academic year to the blocked account of Artevelde University College Ghent. The total amount depends on the duration. The amount is transferred back to your Belgian bank account in instalments of 675 euro per month (including a double instalment in September).
  • Option 2: You have a sponsor who is able to demonstrate that he/she has sufficient resources to take over responsibility from you, for one academic year. You will need to fill out the Annex 32 document at the Embassy and deliver the signed and stamped document to us by email.

We advise you to choose the first option for a smooth student visa application process at the Belgian Embassy. You will receive a 'certificate of sufficient means of subsistence' from us as proof of the payment of the means of subsistence, which will facilitate your visa application process.

The payment deadline of the processing cost + sufficient means of subsistence is June 13th 2019 or December 1st to enable visa application on time for fall spring.

Certificate of Sufficient Means of Subsistence + apply for visa

After we have received the payments, we will send you and the Belgian Embassy where you plan to apply for your student visa (if you have chosen option 1 in the step above).

The Certificate of Sufficient Means of Subsistence will allow you to apply for a student visa. The minimum waiting time for visa processing is approximately 4 weeks, but it could take up to 3 months. Therefore, submit your visa application on time (the earliest to start your visa application is 3 months before the start of our programme).
